Ashwin Purnima marks the commencing of Sharad ritu. On Sharad Purnima moon is at a shorter distance to earth. This night’s moonlight has properties tending to cure illnesses and restore good health. Kheer is prepared and kept under the moonlight for the whole night and eaten in the morning, on the next day as moonlight enhances the nutritive qualities of the food and it purifies the body and soul. We can also improve our eyesight by looking without blinking at the moon for a few minutes every night from Dussehra to Sharad Poornima.

Ayurvedic Cure for Asthma

The Moon-god is also the lord of herbs, seeds, the Brahmins, waters and Nakshatras or Constellations. Asthma is referred to as Swas Roga in Ayurveda. From an Ayurvedic perspective, the kapha dosha combines with pranavayu leading to obstruction in the respiratory passage called pranavaha srotasa in Ayurveda causing a condition called Swas Roga or Asthma.
